Hey folks!

I took the day off from work so I could catch up on some rest and work on my taxes.

Anyway, if I have the time on a day off, I like to cook a big lumberjack breakfast. I know, we are all watching calories, fat grams, etc...

But I have this recipe from one of my mother's old cookbooks that I wanted to share. I love making this when I get the chance, and they are quite tasty. So have a great weekend, and I'll try to get back with you all sometime soon.

Corn Meal Griddle Cakes

1 cup flour
1 cup corn meal
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 or 2 eggs
2 cups milk

Mix the dry ingredients. Beat the egg well, add the milk, and combine the two mixtures. A tablespoon of molasses may be added to the batter. Bake on greased griddle. Serves six.

Or, one teaspoon baking soda and two cups of sour milk may be used in place of the baking powder and milk.

So here I am, eating lunch while reading posts on Blogstream, and I am having a cup of yogurt. Mountain Blueberry is the flavor.



Can somebody please tell me what the hell the difference is between a mountain blueberry and a blueberry grown in a field?

Besides being grown at a higher altitude.

I am a fan of Grey's Anatomy. Why? I don't know. Maybe it's because the female cast is attractive, or maybe it is because I like seeing The Nazi give all the interns a hard time. Anyway, as I was getting ready to tape the Thursday Night lineup on ABC, there was a promotion for a new show called "October Road". I figured I would tape it and watch the series premiere when I get a chance. That chance was last night.

The show isn't bad. It's about a young man who left his hometown 10 years ago to go to college. Over that time, he writes a book about his hometown. And some of the things he has written about has made some people angry. Especially an ex-girlfriend who currently has a husband and a ten-year-old child.

Anyway, throughout the show, songs are being played, and there is a scene where the author finds out that a few friends of his teenage years still get together once a week and play "air instruments" to recorded music. They are playing their imaginary instruments to "The Boys Are Back In Town", which was a popular hit in the 1970s. Other references to rock and roll bands and songs played on the show are from the 1970s.

Let me get this straight. It is currently 2007. The story revolves around a man who left his hometown ten years ago. That would be 1997. That would make him about eighteen years-old as he goes off to college. So ten years later, he would be about 28 years-old.

Now, I would imagine that an 18 year-old leaving for college in the year 1997 would be listening to a band that was from the 1990s, don't you think?

I would imagine that he would be listening to the Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Oasis, or possibly the Gin Blossoms or the Wallflowers.

Is the show targeted for people in their late 20s, or is it targeted for an older audience? The show is about a group of friends from 1997, and they are making references to R.E.O Speedwagon and Thin Lizzy? Most of the people I know who grew up in that era listened to Phish, Dave Matthews Band, or Nine Inch Nails, or other 90s' bands for that matter.

If the show is going to be about people who grew up in the 1990s, play the music they grew up with. Not the music their parents grew up with.

Besides, I have a friend who would really get a kick out of hearing The Pixies on the soundtrack for the television show.

Hey Folks!

I have just finished an inspection of our neighborhood center and the surrounding area. And now I am currently on lunch break, so I will fill you in on the details. Last year, the new director for the recreation department came up with a monthly inspection for the neighborhood centers. Once a month, an employee from that facility is given a form and is required to walk around the neighborhood center to see if anything needs to be cleaned, repaired, etc...

Which is good because you want to have any public facility clean and in proper working order. You want to have a great appearance because this reflects on the city.

Anyway, we are required to walk around the surrounding area of the facility. Whether it be a park or athletic fields, we have to make sure that everything is clean and in working order. Since I work in maintenance, anything that needs to be cleaned or repaired in the recreation center is my responsibility.

Anything that does not fall under my job description (electrical, plumbing, carpentry...)is reported to facility management in a work order. Then someone will come out and do any needed repairs. It is also the same procedure for parks department.

Excuse me while I start to laugh.



You see, since we have been doing these monthly inspections, I have reported a dead tree near the front of the facility that needs to be removed. Our facility is operated by the city. The school next to our center, however, is operated by the county. There is an argument as to whether the tree is on city property, or county property. So naturally, both municipalities try to pass it off on one another.

If I can get access to a chainsaw, I can cut the damn tree down myself! But then that will cause a problem.

So here I am, writing about this as someone drives by our facility and see a dead tree out front.

I should put a damn noose in the thing!

"Look honey", as the man tells his wife while they drive by,"they're starting to decorate for Halloween already!"

I wonder how many more "inspections" I will have to do in order to get that tree cut down.

Keep the thing up. We can use it as a prop for our haunted house.

Now where's that noose?
