Thoughts from a drinking buddy

 Thoughts for a Friday

Yesterday I wrote a blog about bad drivers. After reading it, I just was not happy with what I wrote. So I went ahead and removed it. A few folks at Blogstream wondered about the blog being removed, so that is what happened.

I was commenting on a driver I had seen Wednesday. Her driving was so bad, I got to thinking that maybe she got her license out of a box of Cracker Jack. I also got to thinking how some of these drivers passed the driving test given to them by the Department of Motor Vehicles, and if they took the same drivers education that I did. I ask that because I see many drivers doing things that they are not suppose to, and not doing things that they are suppose to.

And this morning, I have a guy tailgating me on the way to work. And then proceeds to pass me in a no passing zone. I just wish there was a police officer around when these people are on the road.

To make matters worse, Biketoberfest started in Daytona Beach yesterday, and there have been 2 deaths on the road already. I thought of maybe going out there, but traffic will be a mess. The City of Daytona Beach expects over 100,000 people to be in town for the event.

That's a lot of motorcycles!

I am thinking of going out to Daytona, but I may just stay in town. But if I do go out, I may go out to the Space Coast, which is Titusville-Cocoa Beach-Cape Canaveral. I do not know if there will be any bikers out that way. If there is, I will just have to drive more carefully. You always have to keep your eyes open for the other driver.

If there are bikers out that way, I wonder if any of the biker babes will be flashing their tits like they do in Daytona?

Having said that, why has Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd from the television show "Grey's Anatomy" entered my train of thought? And why is she wearing biker chick attire, complete with chaps? I better get out of here and on the road. Have a great weekend!

 Lions, Tigers, Bears,......Oh My!

I wrote a blog this morning about my friend Craig, only to watch it disappear into cyberspace. Anyway, I was talking to my friend Craig at work today. He has been wearing his Detroit Tigers ball cap all through the playoffs, and he probably will not be taking it off anytime soon.

My friend Craig was born in Detroit, and now lives in Orlando. He has watched the Tigers through the years, putting up with seasons of 100 losses or more. And now the Tigers are going to the World Series. All we have to do now is wait on the Mets and Cardinals. Nothing against the Mets, but I would like to see St. Louis play Detroit.

Craig is also happy that the Lions won their first game. I do not know how their season will end up, but I know Craig has endured his share of losing seasons. I can relate, being a Cleveland Browns fan. We root for our teams. Win or lose. No jumping on the bandwagon, like all those 49er fans in the 80's. And how about all of those Chicago Bulls fans? Where are they now?

Speaking of Chicago, my friend Coach is happy. The Bears are undefeated. And I know that he had his share of losing seasons as well.

I am glad to see friends that are happy when their sports team does well. It gives them something to look forward to. It gives them something to feel great about, especially when life may not be a bowl of cherries.

Now, about those Cleveland Browns................

 Blogging

I read an article in the October 16 edition of the Orlando Sentinel about blogging. What makes people write a blog. What do they write about. And what happens if they don't know what to write.

There is a book out entitled "No One Cares What You Had For Lunch:100 Ideas for Your Blog",by Maggie Mason. It is from Peachpit Press. In the article, Mason talks about how a person starts a blog. At first, they are really excited about their blog. It gives the writer a creative outlet. But soon, according to Mason, a person may have difficulty writing their blog. A writer's block, if you will. And if that person does not know what to write about, then the end of the blog is near.

In the article, it is estimated that 5,000 new blogs are started each day. That's alot of reading! What does Mason recommend to keep your blog from going stale and to keep people reading it?

Mason suggests that you be passionate about what you write. Do you have a hobby that you are really into. Or are you into politics or culture? Write about it! Mason also recommends writing about what has happened in your life. Experiences that several readers can relate to. Even writing about bad experiences can be a great idea for a blog. Bad date? I think we have all had that date from Hell. Write about it!

When it comes to blogging, Mason recommends to be yourself. If people like what you have to write about, then chances are is that they will continue to read you.

Now, about the date from Hell................

 Skateboards and Bikes

The children are out of school today and tomorrow, so the neighborhood center is having a day camp for children of working parents. Working parents. It seems to me that in today's economy, both parents have to work. At least they have a nice facility to bring their children to.

And today the children are going on a field trip. Dew Action Sports Tour is having an event at the TD Waterhouse Centre today through Sunday. It is an event that showcases professional skateboarding and BMX bikes. You can check out the website at dewactionsportstour.com.

I would have never thought that I would see the day when a 16 year-old riding a skateboard would be considered a professional athlete. But if you look at the majority of snowboarders at the recent Winter Olympics who won medals, they were all under twenty years of age.

I remember when I was a child. Evel Knievel was popular with his motorcycle stunts. Me and my friends had those old Schwinn bicycles with the banana seats, the three speed stick shift (gear shift)and the ape hanger handlebars. We thought we were so cool!

"Hey, Babe! Wanna ride?"

We would always try to imitate Evel Knievel on our bikes. We would build a ramp and ride our bikes as fast as we could go and fly up that ramp to see how high and how far we could go.

Then someone would have an accident and bruise or break something. Then all the parents would call their children in for dinner. So much for the stunt show!

And now I think about how people watch these skateboarders and bicyclists perform these stunts and actually pay money. I wish we could have sold tickets then. And you knew that someone was going to have an accident and get hurt. Just like NASCAR.

I just wish there was a river or fountain we could have jumped on our super propelled Schwinn bikes when I was little!

I can just imagine being on ESPN right now. Flying through the air on that Schwinn......
