Thoughts from a drinking buddy
Tuesday June 6, 2006
Well, the campers had lunch, then a few of the groups are currently swimming. The middle school students in our summer camp will go swimming later.
The lunch of the day was mystery meat with cheese. The staff came to the conclusion that the lunch meat was some sort of ham. Yesterday was the chicken "breast" sandwich. Actually, it is processed chicken made to look like a chicken breast.
"Uh, excuse me, but what part of the chicken is the sandwich made from?"
"Chicken parts!"
"Chicken parts?"
"Parts is parts!"
Peanut butter and cheese crackers and fruit juice is the snack. Better than the sorry sugar cookie they had the other day. Damn thing tasted like a dog biscuit.
The smaller children are going to the movies tomorrow to see "Over The Hedge". I volunteered to take them to see "The Omen", but the facility supervisor was not too keen on that idea.
Oh well.

Yesterday started the second week of summer camp. Last week was chaotic, since the neighborhood center was short on staff for the summer day camp. Several activities were not planned until the second week, so there was only so much the staff could do.
All of the camp counselors were at work yesterday, and the pool opened over the weekend. With the pool open, the campers can now go swimming in the afternoon, providing that they pass the swim test the lifeguards give each child. No flopping and floundering in this pool!
Instructors from the cultural affairs department came to the recreation center yesterday and taught the children ceramics. The campers made clay chickens, although some resembled anything but a chicken! I will have to get a photo of the finished projects and post them.
During the week, the campers will have tennis lessons and a field trip.
I will post what is going on with summer camp throughout the week and the rest of the summer.
I have to go now, since some of the invaders...I mean campers, have invaded....I mean have entered the computer lab.
I will tell you more summer camp adventures later, especially about the dreaded government lunches.

One more thing. I just wanted to thank everyone for reading my blog and for the support.
I usually try to be upbeat and positive when I write my blog. Sometimes, there are days when it is just difficult to do. Sometimes you just need to go off about what is on your mind. What is troubling you, and had anyone gone through the same thing.
It is late, and I must go to bed. It will be a busy day tomorrow.
So good night, and sweet dreams.
But it can wait until I am done listening to "Strawberry Letter Twenty-Two."
Anyone remember that song from The Brothers Johnson?

It is Saturday evening, and it has been a long, hot day after working at the theme park. After I came home, I cooked dinner and had an after dinner cigar out on the patio. Being on my feet all day, I am not going to spend the rest of the night standing. So it is time I sit in the patio chair and have a cigar and watch the world go by. Literally. My apartment faces the main road, so there is a lot of traffic that goes by.
Motorists driving to the toll road at the end of the road. Police cars with lights and sirens on chasing after speeders. Pizza delivery drivers slowing down to find what house gets which pizza. Saturday night revelers going to the party. And the occasional fire truck or ambulance.
I have had a lot on my mind lately. As I sat out on the patio, I was thinking about the past and present. And what the future holds for me. Next week I will have to take care of some business that I need to address. Hopefully, I will be able to straighten out any problems resulting from life's past. I have many regrets, but I have also learned from these experiences.
What I find funny is that whatever problems I may have, I like myself more now than I did fifteen years ago. I have more confidence and better self esteem now than I did fifteen years ago. I also learned more about people, especially those I used to be friends with.
Whatever happens, happens. Afraid? Yes, but that comes with the unknown. On Thursday, I had taken a half day off from work so I could make some appointments I had scheduled. Unfortunately, those appointments were canceled. I did, however, have a chance to go out for lunch at the New China Buffet. After finishing lunch, my check arrived as well as the fortune cookie. I read the fortunes just for the fun of it, wondering if they will come true.
The fortune that afternoon informed me that all the troubles you have will pass away very quickly.
I am keeping the fortune to see if that comes true.
And if it does, I am playing those lucky numbers on the bottom of the fortune the next time I buy a lotto ticket.
