Thoughts from a drinking buddy

 What's Happening

What's happening, everybody?

Just thought I would drop a line to say hello while Norah Jones sings in the background.

The Daytona 500 is tomorrow. Traffic around Orlando was bad today, with many people here for the races or a three day weekend. And the theme park was crazy today. Long lines, vending carts running out of items, and crying babies. MANY crying babies.

At least the weather was beautiful, and tomorrow's forecast calls for a high of 84 degrees. We will be selling a lot of bottled water and ice cream tomorrow.

Whenever there is an event, such as the races, Spring Break, and Bike Week, traffic is always going to be heavy. Events take place in Daytona, but many people find their way over to Orlando. With Disney, Universal, and Sea World, people hop on Interstate 4 and visit the parks. Cars with different license plates, driven by people with a license from that state. And I have come to the conclusion that bad drivers come from all over.

Sometimes I wonder if people have left their brain at home, let alone left the coffee pot on. And if they are reading a map, talking on the cell phone, AND eating/drinking something at the same time, you know that they are going to be coming over into your lane.

Anyway, I survived the heavy traffic today, although I was almost late for work. And it was a good day at work, so I can't complain.

And if you get a chance to have some free time and can brave the traffic and parking, check out "No Country For Old Men". I went out to see it last night, and it is a really good movie, albeit a violent one.

Well, I have to get going. It is late and I have to get up early in the morning. No sleeping in for this guy. So if you are in Orlando and you see some guy in a white truck honking his horn at bad drivers on the interstate, it's probably me.

Oh, and to the author of Life Is Not One Big Joke, I stopped by your blog tonight to leave a comment, only to get "Page Cannot Be Found". So I just wanted to say hello and to let you know that coffee will be ready in the morning.

You should see how I drive when I have not had my morning coffee.

 Valentine's Day

I have no cute graphics of Cupid,
nor do I have a graphic of a Valentine heart.

I do not have a photo of a dozen roses,
nor do I have a photo of a box of chocolates.

No photos of a couple kissing,
That is one photo my gallery is missing.

I have no video of a romantic moment from a Hollywood love story,
or even a song to put one in a romantic mood.

I do, however, have a keyboard,
that lets me write the feelings that I want to express.

So may everyone at Blogstream have a Happy Valentine's Day,
and that is what my heart has to say.

8.)The National Organization of Women will be taking over operations of Knotts Berry Farm and will become: Knott NOW!

 Twenty Three Years

I celebrated an anniversary of sorts yesterday. February 6, 1986, is the date that I was hired on by my current employer. So as of yesterday, I completed twenty two years of service to the city. As of today, I start my twenty-third year of employment.

Three more, and I can retire after completing twenty five years.

I have a feeling the next three years will move rather slowly.

In the meantime, I will celebrate this milestone tomorrow. Don't worry. I have contacted the authorities about going out tomorrow night. I'll be the guy running around town yelling "Three more years!"

 The Past Week

I have been having problems with the computer at work for the past week, as well as on my home computer. At work, I cannot get onto blogstream, as well as several other internet sites. As for my home computer, I am having a problem with downloading photos.

Last week, my sister sent me an e-mail informing me that a cousin of mine, Ron, and his wife, Janet, were in Florida on vacation. My sister gave them my phone number for them to call me when they arrived in Daytona. Ron called me when they got to their timeshare, and we made arrangements to meet on Saturday.

It was the first time I have met Ron and Janet, so there was a part of me that was nervous. When I finally met him at his timeshare, it was like as if we had known each other for our whole life. The visit was enjoyable, although the winds from the ocean were strong as we made our way down A1A. We had lunch at the Hog Heaven Barbecue on A1A. Then we made our way down to the Baskin Robbins for dessert. If you get a chance to go to Baskin Robbins, try the pineapple coconut ice cream.

We went back to the timeshare and talked while looking at maps for their trip up to St. Augustine. They are currently visiting friends there, then they will go back to Sanford and catch the Amtrak. They had to check out early Sunday, so I said good night and made my way back to the parking garage.

I told them that when they are down again, to give me a call. It was great to meet a cousin that you never had a chance to meet before. It seems like there are always a relative that you hear family talk about, but you never get to meet. They told me that there are plans for a reunion, so I hope that I may be able to get the time in the summer and go. Ron and Janet told me that they have a reunion every two years, and each family member takes turns planning it. Last year, the reunion was in Ohio, so my sister was able to attend.

I wanted so much to post a photo of me and my cousin, but like I said, I have been having problems downloading photos. Hopefully, after I get things figured out, I will post the photos of our visit. As well as photos of the Oyster Pub in Daytona Beach, or the Bar Out Back in Sanford.

But that's another story.
