"Please make a fist.", the nurse told me as she prepared the needle.
I have not had coffee yet. I cannot eat until the blood has been drawn for testing. And on top of it all, I am getting poked with a needle. All before 7:30 a.m. What a way to start the day.
At the start of the new year, I had a physical. The first one I have have since I turned forty. After the first physical, I was told to lose weight, watch the sugar and cholesterol, and make plans on getting a colonoscopy.
So for the last few months, I have given up bread. I have cut down on the amount of pasta and rice I eat. I no longer buy soda. Not even diet soda. I quit eating ice cream for dessert after dinner. And on top of that, I have done the unthinkable. I am cutting out the beer.

Oh, the horror!
With a full-time job and a part-time job on the weekends, it is sometimes hard to find the time to exercise. When I get a chance, I will go for a walk along the lake after work. This way, I have gotten my exercise out of the way before I go home.
Last week, I had the colonoscopy. The results were good, so nothing to worry about there. "Come back in five years.", said the doctor. "And eat more bran cereal!"
"Yes sir!"
I wonder if they make bran ice cream?

Anyway, I'll tell you more about preparing for the colonoscopy some other time. But for now, I will have to wait a week to find out how the sugar levels and my cholesterol is. At least I have lost twelve pounds. That's the good news. And I have not heard the dreaded "C" word, so that is even better.
So as I wait for the results, I will continue to diet and exercise. And don't worry, raspberrytoast, I will not be ogling any women while I walk around the park.

But I think a little celebration is in order, so I may help myself to a bowl of ice cream after dinner tonight. I will walk if off tomorrow. Besides, it is low fat ice cream.
As for the bran cereal? It can wait until I am finished with my box of corn flakes.
Sounds like you're doing better than I am.
Good for you about all that health stuff though! As I get older I find that I am not only exercising to stay fit, but I want to be healthy and not get heart disease and all that stuff that I thought would never effect me when I was young!
I try not to drink much diet pop, but I prolly do anyway...
Oh and I hate having blood drawn! I'm one of those big baby, pass out if I watch people!
Take Care!
On occasion, I have a few cookies with my lunch, or maybe a bag of potato chips. I try not to make a daily habit of it, as I did in the past. As for pasta, rice, and breads, I will have it once in awhile. I also try to drink plenty of water, so that way, I can keep away from the soda.
I try not to deny myself something that I want to eat, but some things I eat less often. And I am eating more vegetables and fruits.
I'm not doing tofu,though!
I quit smoking cigarettes years ago. So naturally, I gained some weight. I also found myself not exercising like I used to. So when I went in to get a physical, I wanted to find out three things. Did all the years of smoking do any damage? What kind of a diet would be best for me? And what exercise would the doctor recommend.
To this day, there are no signs of the "Big C", and hopefully the results from today's blood test will be better than when I went in during my January visit. And as for the walking, I find myself wanting to do more of it, although my schedule only allows for so much time.
I have had people tell me that I look young for my age, and I want to keep it that way.
As for the needles....lets just say that I have to look the other way.
"I will not be ogling any women while I walk around the park."
If you have stopped ogling women, it is time to get off that diet - immediately!
needles? Well, I have to give myself an intramuscular injection every 2 weeks with a one-inch long needle that I have to load and inject into my thigh; hope to hit muscle and yes the needle goes all the way in. I didn't think I could do it myself, but I have given myself 3 shots so far; next to having to do that, drawing blood is a piece of cake when compared!
I love to walk too, and do so weather allowing around a city park square here which is exactly half a mile, and a block away which makes it convenient. Lately I am into Zumba classes and just started a new 5-week class on Monday and Thursday nights. it's fun!
Don't worry. I just "occasionally glance for several seconds."
If Miss Everlast is there at the park, it may be a little longer.
I just don't know how you do it. I think I would have to take a shot just to give myself a shot. If you know what I mean.
I enjoy walking along the lake near my apartment. The city has a park with a trail that goes along the lake and connects to several bike trails. It is popular with joggers, bicyclists, rollerbladers, and dog walkers. There is also a public boat ramp available for boaters.
Have fun with your classes, and I'll stop in when I get a chance.
I figured giving myself an intramuscular injection would get easier too, but it hasn't; I almost chickened out last week; it's the actual stab part; they said to hold and stab it like a dart, but that's hard to do when it's you doing stabbing yourself. They say this needle is the sharpest needle in the world and I believe it, it looks more like dangerous weapon to me.
I had to have blood drawn LATE one afternoon & couldn't eat or drink before.
I hate it when they pull my plug and play with my dip stick
I went and learned that I am...well...42.
Dag gone, had I known at 20 what I know at 40..oh who am I kidding.
I always preferred sugar puffs. I miss them. *sighs*
