Thoughts from a drinking buddy

 After The Fourth
Back to Full Blog

Good morning everybody!

I was just over at Life Is Not One Big Joke checking out a video that Misty put together. If you get a chance, like I finally did, check it out.

So, how was your Fourth of July holiday? Mine was nice and quiet. With the exception of the fireworks going off throughout the neighborhood. And some good ones at that. Why bother going downtown to a crowded park to watch bad fireworks when you can sit on the patio, have a cigar and a cold soda, and watch some good fireworks that your neighbor is shooting off.

Besides, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer just wants the people with money to come downtown and watch fireworks. And the parking is a hassle, too. And since I am on the subject, if you are ever in Orlando on vacation and you are driving, watch out where you park! You will either get a parking ticket, or a towing company will tow your car. And what is worse is that the police officer or the tow truck driver will wait until you leave your vehicle. Then they will issue you a citation,or they will tow the vehicle. Either way, you wind up having to pay a fine, towing fee, or both. And it seems like it has gotten worse since that son-of-a-bitch has been in office. Just like everything else in this sorry excuse for a city.

Getting back to fireworks. I work at a theme park on the weekend. And every night, there is a fireworks display put on before closing. So for me, I do not get excited about fireworks as I used to. Although I still enjoy watching fireworks when I get a chance. And in my neighborhood, we have some real pyros here. And those pyros love the fireworks! Just like those characters from SCTV would say, "That blew up real good!"

Some of the fireworks the neighbors shoot off are just as good, if not better, than what you would see downtown. And you don't have to pay $5.00 dollars or more for a beer. Or have to listen to a mayor who looks like a used car salesman welcoming you to the festivities.

I hope you all had a great, and safe, Fourth of July. And now if you excuse me, I am going to cook breakfast. Watching the fireworks last night made me work up an appetite.

Hey! It's a tough job. But somebody has to do it!

So. How do you want your eggs?

I despise MickeyLand and refuse to go there since the only time I went which was about 20 yrs ago, if it was bad then, I can only imagine how much it sucks now.Back then we went to check out a condo for 40.00$ w/ no strings, just about time-shared the sucker cuz it was lush and right in the heart of the city.So we did not but the assholes wanted to give us a check that we would have had to drive 30 miles to a certain bank to cash ...I, being the diplomat that I am , told them to pay me in cash or I call the Atty Gen or tear your fucking head off. Got the cash and used it for gas and Tony Roma's ribs on the way to Tampa Bay.w00t! BC

Big Al:

My wife and I and another couple went to a fine restaurant at the harbor in San Diego to have dinner and watch the fireworks over the bay.We had a window seat, the fireworks were great, the dinner was good, and the service was fair. Imagine how I felt when I got the bill and discovered I was charged $8 for a glass of wine - and they filled it only half full. That was actually $16 a full glass. Next year, I think we will get there early and spread out a blanket and take our own food and drink.

Hey Big Al!

Glad you had a fine time on July 4th. I enjoy the light show but I've seen so many that it's not quite the same as it was when I was 10. I still enjoy the parades and the food, and that will never change.

Before you eat any eggs, you may want to check out this video. As General Goatheart found out, they are in everybody's eggs....

Cheers!

I'll take mine over easy Thank You Well lets see... guess the biggest excitement was crossing the river on the train tracks It took many years to be called an asshole by a train conductor ......but now I have The second was the 4th on the beach watching them shoot fireworks off the barge in torrential rainand then having to wait for a few thousand people to squeeze through a 3ft opening. But thanks to group of young men supplying us with live entertainment while waiting, the wait actually wasn't that bad. The worse part was just trying to convince my kids this wasn't Woodstock and to keep their clothes on that sliding in the mud isn't half as fun as it looks But your right I could have stayed home a watched the neighbor from Hell blow up the neighborhood!
Would have be just as enjoyable Glad to hear you some well needed time off from work Enjoy whats left of the weekend.........Love Ya

Whit,

I bet you could have bought that whole bottle of wine for somewhere between $8.00 and $16.00 at a wine and spirits store.

Other than that, it sounds like you had a wonderful July Fourth.

Prank,

The fireworks I watched at my apartment were just as good as some of the fireworks the city puts on. As for the video, I will have to check it out when I get home.

Misty,

Sliding in the mud? If I was to try that, I would probably break something. It seems like it always rains here on the Fourth, and the traffic in downtown Orlando is always a mess after the fireworks. Add to that the people who live downtown walking in front of your car as you are trying to go through a green light.

At least it was a relaxing holiday for me. Especially coming back to a neighborhood center full of children on a Monday. It must have been relaxing. I was able to say the "M" word.

Bella,

If I remember correctly, the last time I asked you how you wanted your eggs, you said that you wanted instead. So after having , I never found out how you wanted those eggs. So I just made scrambled.

You must have forgot, since the was so great.

I can sum up the Orlando parking situation in five words; "meter maid outside Mama B's" I swear she saw me park on Orange avenue and pulled out her pad the minute I went into the sub shop. My neighborhood seems to stock up for New Year's Eve...that's when things get blowed up real good! Fourth of July? Not so much.
