Thoughts from a drinking buddy

 Sunshine
Back to Full Blog

The sun has been out the last few days, and the weather report calls for clear skies and lots of sunshine through the weekend as Hanna moves up the coast. Now we have to worry about Ike. As well as Josephine.

In case you're wondering what a hurricane is like, let me explain it to you. It's like getting a visit from that obnoxious aunt that nobody likes. Or like the loser brother you have who gets drunk and proceeds to make your life miserable because he is miserable.

They come in to where you live, and make a mess of your home. A tropical storm like Fay will only bring rain, which will cause flooding afterwards. Its like Aunt Fay left after her visit, saying she had a great time. And then she is pissing all over you as she tells all the other relatives bad things about you and your family and about how awful her visit was. And the more she pisses, the higher those flood waters are going to get.

A hurricane on the other hand, not only brings a lot of rain, but high winds and a possible tornado. And in its path, it will destroy homes. Kind of like the drunk loser brother who has a party with his drunk friends at your place and trashes your home. And then when you say something, he smacks the shit out of you. That's what winds of over 100 miles per hour can do.

So now I wait for Ike and Josephine as the storms that blow through my everyday life cause much upheaval. Someday, I hope I will have these issues resolved. And thanks to those out there that gave me the support I needed, as well as a thanks to my sister whom I talked to the day after I posted my last blog. Although she will most likely not be reading this, it was nice to hear the voice of a loved one when you are down.

And the sun is shining today. No clouds. No rain. And no fat, obnoxious aunt like Fay hanging around for a week and making things miserable. So I am going to enjoy the sunshine for now. Problems or no problems. And I'll take Ike on as he comes. The clouds will pass, just like those black clouds of my life. And maybe more sunshine will come.

And if Ike does come this way, say a prayer for the people whose homes were flooded by Fay. The last thing they need is another storm.

Thanks.

Al

some pretty wacked out storm paths, I want nothing to do with Ike, esp if he is already whipping at 145 mph...Hanna is loopy and Josephine is way too far off to even guess.Take care no matter...BC

Big Al:

What a great idea. Why don't you start calling the hurricanes Aunt Hanna, Uncle Ike, Aunt Josephine, and so on?

Big Al, have you thought of a possible move where this would not be such a burden, nothing like running away from your problems, but I would do anything to not have to dread the frequency of these tropical storms which are predicted to only multiply in amount and intensity in the years to come.

((((((((( AL )))))))))))))))
I hear what you are saying as well as what your not. Sure we're not related? How about a cup of coffee I'm climbing the walls right now on one foot waiting for a call from the hospital

BigChris,

I hope that Ike decides to keep to the south. The last thing some people need around this area is another hurricane or tropical storm.

Whit,

Uncle Ike and Aunt Hanna can just get in their Barnie Goo-Goo mobile and get the hell out of here!

n.lynn,

I would like to move to Atlanta. That is where my family is. But in February, I will start my 24th year of service at my place of employment. After 25 years, I can retire with full pension and medical. So that is the only thing keeping me here.

Misty,

I am sorry to hear about Sole. I thought it would be good for him to rest at home, but I guessed wrong. It is good, however, that a physician was able to find out any problems that the previous doctors missed. This way, he will get the proper attention he needs.

I am also sorry to hear about your foot. Those photos of your foot you had posted on your blog sure weren't pretty.

Stay off the foot, and I'll get you a cup of coffee. I ran out of coffee filters for the Mr. Coffee, so I'll just bring out the french press.

Cream and sugar?

That is literally forcing you to ride out the storms. I am glad that you may have that opportunity to leave and especially be with family. I swear that I think someday FL will be an island out in the atlantic.

Hey Al,

Looks like Hanna will bring up a little wind and badly needed rain.
The weather channel is predicting that Ike will head North of all of us, effecting ships in the middle of the ocean but not making landfall.
Who knows about Josephine?
As quick as we are going through the letters, have you ever known it to go all the way to Z ... What happens then?

Hugggggggggggggggz,
Taylor

n.lynn,

It may one day become an island, but for now it has become what one comedian described California.

It is like a bowl of cereal. If it's not full of fruits and nuts, it's a bunch of flakes.

kk,

Hanna brought us some rain today, and the forecast for Saturday and Sunday calls for sunny skies.

As for Ike, we will get word Monday as to whether to put up the hurricane shutters. If Ike does come to Florida, we are probably looking at Wednesday.

busman,

Thanks for driving the bus by my blog. I usually have names for these hurricanes, but I better not repeat them right now.

Anyway, I am glad that football season has started. My team, the Cleveland Browns, play the Cowboys on Sunday. I think Cleveland will do well, but the AFC is going to be a tough division. I have a funny feeling that the Baltimore Ravens may do better than some people think. I think your Seahawks should do well this year. As for the NFC West, I do not see the other teams in that division doing well.

kk,

As for what happens when the named storms reach Z, I do not know. Good question, and I'll have to find out about that. I have different names for them, but I can't repeat them right now.
