Thoughts from a drinking buddy

 About This Weekend's Games
Back to Full Blog

Hey folks!

Just sitting down to lunch, so I thought that I would check out a few blogs. Since I have some time, I may as well sit down at the keyboard and type a few things on my mind.

How about those Arizona Cardinals? I was really impressed with their play against the Carolina Panthers last Saturday. Kurt Warner looks better each week. And so does Donovan McNabb. At the beginning of the football season, I felt that the Philadelphia Eagles would be competitive. I never would have thought that Arizona would have had such a great season. I thought that they would have a good season, but I did not think they would make the playoffs.

So now these two teams face off for the National Football Conference Championship on Sunday. There is a part of me that would love to see the Cardinals play in the Super Bowl, since they have never been there. There is also a part of me, though, that would love to see Donovan McNabb get to another Super Bowl. Then he could send a telegram to Terrell Owens:

"We can get to the Super Bowl with you, and we can get to the Super Bowl without you!"

For wide receivers,I would have Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin on my football team any day. Keep T.O., Randy Moss, and Ocho Cinco. Or whatever the hell his name is.

Other wide receivers I would have on my team? Hines Ward, Andre Johnson, Marvin Harrison, and Wes Welker. I will also take Calvin Johnson from Detroit. This guy is going to be a great one. And I like this rookie that Philadelphia has, DeSean Jackson. And a wide receiver coming out of college to keep an eye on: Michael Crabtree from Texas Tech.

As for the Pittsburgh Steelers-Baltimore Ravens game? I'm from Cleveland. Ask me if I care.

Seriously though, this is going to be a great matchup. Both have a great defense, and the offense is smash mouth style running game with some good receiving. And I am really impressed with quarterback Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens. I think I can seriously say that Ozzie Newsome found the Ravens franchise quarterback when they picked Flacco from Delaware in this past year's NFL Draft. Another rookie I was impressed with was Matt Ryan from Boston College. Ryan was just the answer to the Atlanta Falcons problems.

Okay, so they may have a few weak spots. But I think the Falcons will be a contender for years to come.

Getting back to the Steelers and the Ravens. It really does not matter which team goes to the Super Bowl. I still think these two teams were the best in the American Football Conference, along with the Tennessee Titans. Just wondering. Will Vince Young be the starter next year. Or will Jeff Fisher keep Kerry Collins in as the starter?

I think I would have to go with Collins. As long as Kevin Mawae is still at center.

I do think it would be neat to see a "Pennsylvania" Super Bowl, with Pittsburgh playing Philadelphia. Then again, a "Battle of the Birds" would be great, matching up the Cardinals against the Ravens. Or even the Eagles/Ravens.

No matter who wins on Sunday, I think it is going to be a great Super Bowl.

But I think it would be really sweet if Donovan plays the Super Bowl and T.O. is stuck at home watching the Super Bowl.

Can you tell that I am a fan of Donovan McNabb?

Just think, the Bucs passed on Adrian Petersen,Ryan,Flacco,Devin Hester and got Gaines Adams to play Def End...I could kick his ass at 53 1/2 yrs old, 6-4 and 320, the dumbasses.I think the Cards season has been great for their fans, the Ravens are dangerous, but I think that Donovan is on a redemption kick and Big Ben wants to remind everyone he is still the man. Steelers 27 Eagles 20 rt here in beautiful TAMPAAAA BAYYYYYY!!! lol and come early to make a tour of the beaches and strip joints and go Wing House for casual munching fare GET A GROUPER SAMMICH!!!OH and John Smoltz is a RED SOCK! w00t! Glad to see you have passion for football, gives you something to look forward to...We were always fans of where we lived, e.g. in MN it was the Vikings, in MA it's the Patriots, in TX it was the Cowboys, in NY, the Giants, in Singapore it remained the Vikings, now it's back to the Patriots! Hope I didn't bore you.

A.D.,

Sorry about the Sooners. I will admit, though, the BCS game between Oklahoma and Florida was one of the better college football games I have seen this season. And if it is any consolation, at least it was not a blowout.

BigChris,

I remember a friend of mine who went to Tampa for the Super Bowl. This was when the Giants beat the Bills at the "Ol' Sombrero". He walked around the parking lot for the pre-game festivities, and then proceeded to watch the game at Mons Venus. Needless to say, he didn't make it for the post-game activities.

As for the Bucs, I think it is about time for the Glazer family to give Jon Gruden one more year.

BigChris,

I remember being in Tampa one weekend for a Bucs game, and I spent the Saturday evening at Mons Venus with a bottle of Bicardi and a long legged blond with a great pair of...

So you say that the Wing House has a great grouper sandwich?

WP,

I would like to see the Steelers get in the Super Bowl. It doesn't matter to me whether Arizona or Philadelphia play. I like Donovan McNabb, but I also like Kurt Warner. And I still think Larry Fitzgerald is the best wide receiver in the league next to Houston's Andre Johnson.

yes, but so does Hooters, lots of fish...Wing House has tastier wings, less greasy, but if you have Hooters cook em well done crispy then sauce then, they come out great.Best club to check out in Tampa area is Deja Vu on SR 60 or Adamo Drive...check and see if Peaches is there, but she might own the joint by now...she was one gorgeous Georgia gal, details must be witheld but she was 32 and had just bought a 50K Benz cash. Hi Big Al !! I would really like to see the Cardinals in the super bowl this year. I also agree with you about Welker, that man is total class. Randy Moss is a damn good receiver too but he dropped a lot this year mostly because Brady was out and he had no idea how Cassell played. As the season went on Moss and Cassell started to click but when Brady was throwing to him, Moss was unstoppable. Welker on the other hand just does his job with no flash and does not draw attention to himself. He also comes up with the ball in spots you think no one could make the catch.

katie,

Should the Cardinals beat the Eagles, I would not have a problem with them going to the Super Bowl. The team has not been in the playoffs in a long time.

The obscure Philly TE Celek saved the day for me in my fantasy league this past weekend. I'm now leading having started him and some other logical choices.

With Hines Ward they may have overcome. They were aiming to hurt him. They said as much.
